Overview

This comprehensive induction program is designed to develop core technical competencies for Pumpman and Fitter personnel working on tankers and offshore vessels. The course combines tanker operations knowledge with hands-on workshop training in machining and welding to build strong foundational skills required for safe and efficient onboard performance.

Course Objectives

• Understand tanker construction and cargo/ballast systems
• Perform pump operations and tank cleaning procedures safely
• Interpret and work with pipeline components, valves and gaskets
• Develop machining skills using lathe machines
• Perform welding up to 4G/4F positions (based on entry-level skills)
• Apply safety practices and work ethics onboard

• Role of Pumpman and tanker construction
• Pipeline systems, valves & gasket making
• Tanker cargo and ballast operations (theory & practical)
• Tank cleaning machines (principles & practical)

• Overview of lathe and welding machines
• Machining skills: facing, turning, threading, boring, knurling, drilling
• SMAW welding (1G–4G / 1F–4F positions)
• Plasma cutting, gas cutting & brazing
• Use of measuring equipment and basic NDT
